About Clotrimazole+allantoin
Allantoin+clotrimazole is a combination medication used to treat fungal skin infections like athlete’s foot, ringworm, jock itch and infections caused due to excessive sweating. Besides this, it also treats a fungal infection caused by yeast known as Candida. Fungal infection is a skin disease in which a fungus attacks the tissue and causes infection. Fungal infections may be contagious (spread from one person to another).
Allantoin+clotrimazole is a combination of two drugs: Clotrimazole (antifungal) and Allantoin (moisturizer). The fungal cell membranes are essential for their survival as they prevent unwanted substances into the cells and stop the leakage of cell contents. Clotrimazole belongs to the class of antifungals that works by damaging the fungal cell membranes and killing fungi. Allantoin is a moisturizing agent that works, forming an oily layer on the top of the skin that traps in the water. Thereby moisturising the outermost layer of skin and making it smoother and softer. Also, it breaks down a protein known as keratin (that forms part of skin structure) and removes dead skin cells and softens skin.
Allantoin+clotrimazole is only for external use. Some people may experience itching, pain, redness, irritation, burning or stinging sensation. Most of these side effects of Allantoin+clotrimazole do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects worsen or persist, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Allantoin+clotrimazole or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to consult a doctor before using Allantoin+clotrimazole. Allantoin+clotrimazole should be used in children only as advised by a doctor. Avoid tight-fitting or synthetic clothing as it doesn’t allow air circulation. Wear loose cotton clothes until the infection is healed. Do not wrap or cover the treated area with airtight dressings or bandages unless advised by a doctor. You are advised not to scratch or touch the infected skin areas as it may spread or worsen the infection.
