Medicinal Benefits

Calcitriol+calcium Citrate+vitamin D3 is a Vitamin used to treat low calcium levels in the body. It contains Calcitriol, Calcium Citrate and Vitamin D3. It is used primarily in the treatment of bone disease and works by enhancing bones' calcium and mineral content. In addition, Calcitriol+calcium Citrate+vitamin D3 promotes the normal functioning of nerve cells. Calcitriol is an active form of Vitamin D3, which increases the production of carrier proteins responsible for mobilising calcium ions from the gut into the body, replenishing its stores. Calcitriol also activates bone-producing cells (osteoblasts) and reduces urinary loss of calcium from the body. Calcium citrate helps by restoring normal calcium levels in the body, required for the optimal functioning of bones. Hence, Calcitriol+calcium Citrate+vitamin D3 is useful in bone diseases such as rickets, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, renal osteodystrophy (bone deformities seen in patients undergoing dialysis for kidney disease) and endocrine conditions such as hypoparathyroidism, where inadequate parathormone production leads to a decrease in blood calcium.

    Disease/Condition Glossary

    Osteomalacia

Osteomalacia is a nutritional disorder seen in adults. It is characterised by soft and weak bones, making the body prone to falls and fractures. Osteomalacia is a disease in which the bones tend to break down faster than they can reform. It is caused by severe Vitamin D deficiency.

    Rickets

Rickets is a nutritional disorder seen in children. It is also caused by a severe Vitamin D deficiency. Common signs and symptoms include deformities such as weakness in the bones ad spine and bone deformities such as bow legs and knock knees. In some cases, a deformity of the skull and flaccid muscles may also be seen.

    Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a state in which the bones become weak and brittle. It is often brought about by disease and age (menopausal osteoporosis). In osteoporosis, bone-destroying cells' activity surpasses bone-forming cells' activity. Most people do not suffer from any symptoms until there’s a fracture and bones literally start to break.

    Hypoparathyroidism

Hypoparathyroidism is a condition in which the body produces inadequate levels of parathormone (PTH), which regulates the stores of calcium and phosphate in the body, thereby disrupting bone growth and development. It also causes muscle cramps, twitching facial muscles, dry skin, mood changes and tingling in the extremities.
