Doxylamine+pyridoxine belongs to the class of medications called anti-emetics primarily used to treat nausea (feeling sick) and vomiting (being sick) during pregnancy. Morning sickness (nausea and vomiting during pregnancy) is a common symptom of pregnancy. In some cases, pregnant women experience excessive nausea and vomiting that progresses to a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. It causes electrolyte imbalances and weight loss in pregnant women. 

Doxylamine+pyridoxine is a combination of two drugs, namely: Doxylamine and Pyridoxine (vitamin B6). Doxylamine belongs to the class of antihistamines that works by blocking the natural chemical (histamine) in the body, thereby preventing nausea and vomiting. Pyridoxine/Vitamin B6 deficiency may cause nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Pyridoxine works by increasing the level of vitamin B6 in the body and helps in treating nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Take Doxylamine+pyridoxine as prescribed. You are advised to take Doxylamine+pyridoxine for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as drowsiness, constipation, dizziness, or blurred vision. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

    • Take a healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables, lean meats, skinless poultry, nuts, fish, whole grains, plant-based oils, and low-fat dairy products.

    • Include more cool beverages in your food like clear soup, and flavoured gelatin. Also, when you drink with a straw, sip slowly to avoid swallowing air, it may lead to gas and acidity.
    • Consume liquids at least 30 minutes after eating food.

    • Do not use Doxylamine+pyridoxine if you have used monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (anti-depressant drugs) in the past 14 days as it can cause a sudden fall in blood pressure and also it could lead to increased dizziness and drowsiness.
