Erdosteine
About Erdosteine
Erdosteine belongs to the expectorant or mucolytic agent class. It is generally used to treat the symptoms of worsening short, severe episodes of chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is a long-term inflammation of the airways (bronchi) in the lungs. Chronic bronchitis is a type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) defined as a productive cough of more than three months occurring within two years.
Erdosteine contains Erdosteine, a mucolytic agent (cough/sputum thinner). It works by modulating the sputum viscosity in the respiratory tract, making it more fluid and less thick, increasing the mucociliary rate and allowing mucus removal from the respiratory tract.
You should take Erdosteine exactly as your doctor has instructed. This medication may have some common adverse effects, including epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, taste changes, and heartburn. The majority of these Erdosteine negative effects subside over time without the need for medical care. However, consult a doctor if the adverse effects worsen or persist.
It is recommended not to use if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to erdosteine or any other ingredients present in Erdosteine or if you suffer from severe liver failure, severely decreased kidney function, and have a stomach ulcer or deficiency of the cystathionine-synthetase enzyme (metabolic condition). The use of erdosteine in pregnant or breastfeeding women is not recommended. It should be used in children only if prescribed by the doctor.

Drug Warnings
Do not take it if you are allergic to any ingredients in Erdosteine or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use Erdosteine in more than prescribed doses or longer duration as it may cause adverse effects. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition, sensitives and all the medicines you take before taking Erdosteine to rule out any side effects. Mucolytics can cause bronchial blockage in children under the age of two. In fact, due to the respiratory tract's physiological characteristics, bronchial mucus's drainage capacity is limited at this age. As a result, they should not be used on children under the age of two. Using Erdosteine in people with severe liver or kidney failure and stomach or peptic ulcers is contraindicated.

FAQs
Erdosteine contains Erdosteine, which is a mucolytic medication (a cough/sputum thinner). It alters sputum viscosity in the respiratory tract, making it more fluid and less thick, boosting mucociliary rate and facilitating mucus evacuation from the respiratory system.
Chronic bronchitis is typically caused by long-term exposure to irritants that harm your lungs and airways. Other inhaled irritants can also contribute to chronic bronchitis. Tobacco smoke, air pollution, and chemical fumes or dusts from the environment or workplace are examples.
Smoking is the most significant risk factor. Up to 75% of chronic bronchitis patients smoke or use to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritants, such as second-hand smoke, air pollution, and environmental or workplace chemical fumes and dust.
Chronic bronchitis is diagnosed using pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, a chest X-ray, and a CT scan.
You are recommended to take Erdosteine for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. However, if the symptoms persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
