Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal
About Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal
Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal is a vaccine used in the prevention of any invasive disease produced by Haemophilus influenzae and Tetanus. Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) can cause a variety of diseases ranging from pneumonia to meningitis (brain fever) in children under 5 years of age. Tetanus is a disease in which the causative bacteria produces painful muscle contractions, causing the muscles to become stiff and later lock, thereby restricting any free movement.
Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal is composed of 'Haemophilus B conjugate, Sucrose, Tetanus toxoid and Thiomersal'. Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal functions by generating antibodies against the HiB polysaccharide, which the body recognises as a foreign substance and mounts an immune response against it. The tetanus toxoid portion bound to the HiB polysaccharide further augments immune activity by instigating a more long-term immunity mediated by immune cells called T-cells. Thus, Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal prevents diseases brought on by both HiB as well as tetanus.
Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal may cause certain common side effects such as irritability, lethargy, redness and soreness at the site of injection. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects consistently.
Inform the doctor if your child has any known pre-existing allergy to any of the contents of Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal or has had a severe allergic reaction following a previous dose of Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal. Please inform the doctor of you/your child's detailed medical history, including any chronic disease, neurological disease, HIV or severe illness. Please also inform the doctor of you/your child’s vaccination history. Please consult your doctor before taking Hemophilus B Conjugate+sucrose+tetanus Toxoid+thiomersal if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Pneumonia: An inflammation and infection of the lungs, caused by a viral or bacterial infection, is called pneumonia. Symptoms include high fever, lethargy, confusion, dizziness, shortness of breath, cough, sickliness, nausea, cough with phlegm, difficulty in breathing, and loss of appetite.
Meningitis: The meninges are the covering layers of the brain and spinal cord. Inflammation of the meningeal layers is referred to as meningitis. It is also commonly called brain fever. It is characterised by symptoms such as fever, intolerance to lights, headache, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck and other neurological symptoms depending on the severity of the disease.
Tetanus: It is a serious illness that is caused by the bacteria Clostridium tetani, which live in soil, saliva, dust, and manure. This infection can lead to painful muscle contractions, particularly jaw and neck muscles, arms, chest, abdomen, and leg. This further causes difficulty breathing and frequent spasms.
