Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone

About

Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone belongs to a group of medicines called 'antacids and antiulcerants' used to treat acidity, heartburn, gas, and stomach ulcers. The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity and heartburn. Bloating occurs when the abdomen is filled with gas or air.

Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone contains Magaldrate (antacid), Simethicone (anti-flatulent), and Benzocaine (local anaesthetic). Magaldrate works by neutralising excess stomach acid. Simethicone lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles, facilitating gas expulsion through flatus or belching (burping). It also prevents the accumulation and formation of gas in the digestive tract. Benzocaine exerts a numbing effect, relieving pain due to ulcers or acidic injury in the stomach. Together, Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone provides comfort from acidity, gas and ulcers.

Take Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone with or without food. In some cases, Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone may cause common side-effects such as constipation, diarrhoea, and stomach upset. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Avoid taking aluminium and magnesium-containing antacids with Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone as it could lead to constipation and intestinal obstruction, whereas magnesium-containing antacids might cause diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid consuming alcohol with Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone as it could lead to increased acidity. Magaldrate+benzocaine+simethicone should not be given to children unless precribed by the doctor.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Acidity: The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity. Due to this, acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing. Bloating occurs when the abdomen is filled with gas or air.

Gas/Bloating: Flatulence occurs when gas collects inside the digestive system leading to cramps and bloating with stomach tightness.

Gastric ulcers: These are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the protective stomach lining. Symptoms include nausea, appetite changes, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion.
