Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc

About Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc

Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc belongs to a group of medicines called gastrointestinal agents used to treat acidity, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, leading to complications like GERD and acidity. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn.

Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc is a combination of three medicines: Rabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor), domperidone (a dopamine antagonist), and zinc (nutrition supplement). Rabeprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Rabeprazole works by decreasing the acid amount in the stomach, which helps reduce acid-related indigestion and heartburn. Domperidone works by increasing the movement of food through the stomach and the digestive tract more quickly and in this way reduces the feeling of bloating, or fullness and indigestion. It also blocks messages between parts of your brain called the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and the vomiting centre. This stops you from feeling sick (nauseous) and prevents you from vomiting. Zinc is a nutritional supplement that speeds up the ulcers healing in the intestine and stomach. Together, Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc helps treat acidity related problems.

Take Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical conditions. You may experience diarrhoea, stomach pain, dryness in the mouth, flatulence, dizziness, headache, weakness, and flu-like symptoms. Most of these side effects of Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Inform your doctor before taking Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or intestinal obstruction. Talk to your doctor before taking Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc if you have osteoporosis: Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc may increase bone fractures' risk on long-term treatment. Consult your doctor before taking Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc should not be given to children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol and Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc as it could lead to increased drowsiness and elevate stomach acid production. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side-effects.

Uses of Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc

Acidity, Heartburn, Gastro oesophagal reflux disorder (GERD)

Medicinal Benefits

Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc is a combination of three medicines: Rabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor), Domperidone (a dopamine antagonist), and Zinc (nutrition supplement). Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc is primarily used to treat acidity, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Besides this Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, nausea, vomiting, the fullness of stomach, bloating, gas, helicobacter pylori infection, gastric and duodenal ulcers. Rabeprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are tiny substances in the stomach lining that help it make acid to digest food. Rabeprazole prevents proton pumps from working properly. This reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. Domperidone is a dopamine antagonist that works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscle. Zinc is a nutritional supplement which speeds up the ulcers healing in intestine and stomach. Together, Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc helps treat acidity related problems.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing. Gastric ulcers are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the stomach protective lining. Symptoms include nausea, appetite changes, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is characterized by the formation of tumours in the upper part of the small intestine, which leads to excess acid production. Symptoms include bloating, burping, weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.

    FAQs

Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc is a combination of three drugs, namely: Rabeprazole and domperidone, and zinc. Rabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for acid production. Domperidone works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscles. Zinc is a nutritional supplement that speeds up the ulcers healing in the intestine and stomach. Together, Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc helps in treating acidity.

Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might stimulate saliva and prevent drying of the mouth.

Yes, acidity may arise in new-born babies because there is an undeveloped gastrointestinal tract in new-born babies. There is poor coordination of muscles in the stomach which may cause reflux of stomach content upwards, and the infant may vomit also.

Acidic fruits and foods like citrus fruits (orange, lemon), grapes, etc. may stimulate acid contents in the stomach and cause acidity problems. Banana is a low acid comprising food that may be helpful in patients with heartburn or acidity. On the other hand, cucumber is an alkaline food, thus normally does not cause acidity problems.

Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc contains domperidone, which helps treat nausea and vomiting by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscle. Domperidone block triggering of CTZ receptor, which is the centre point of vomiting.

Do not take Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve even after taking Rabeprazole+domperidone+zinc for 14 days.
