Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone

About Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone

Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone belongs to the dermatological medication class used to reduce swelling, itching, and redness caused due to eczema and dermatitis with secondary bacterial skin infections. Eczema is a skin condition in which the immune system becomes triggered and disordered, thereby causing inflammation, dry skin, itching, a skin rash that appears purple or grey, or red in colour.

Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone is a combination of two drugs: Fusidic acid (antibiotic) and Hydrocortisone (corticosteroid). Fusidic acid belongs to the class of antibiotics that inhibit essential proteins necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply and increase in numbers. Thereby, it stops the growth of bacteria without killing them directly. Then the bacteria eventually die, or the immune system destroys them and clears the infection. Hydrocortisone belongs to the class of corticosteroids that act inside skin cells and inhibit the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching, and swelling. When the skin reacts to any allergens, such chemicals are released normally.

Use Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone as prescribed. Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone is only for external use. Avoid contact of Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone with nose, ears, mouth, or eyes. In case Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Your doctor will advise you how often you take Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience itching, irritation, or burning sensation at the site of application. Most of these side effects of Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before taking Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone. If you experience blurred vision or other vision disturbances, please consult a doctor.  Apply Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone with caution near the eyes as Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone may lead to glaucoma if it gets into the eye. Do not cover or wrap the treated area with bandages unless advised by your doctor. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames as the fabric (bedding, clothing, dressings) in contact with Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone catches fire and burns easily, which is a serious fire hazard. If you have rosacea (redness and often red, small, pus-filled bumps on the face), acne, perioral dermatitis (redness and swelling of the skin around the mouth), tuberculosis, diabetes, syphilis (a bacterial infection), chickenpox or sores, athlete’s foot, broken veins or skin ulcers, please inform your doctor before taking Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone.

Medicinal Benefits

Fusidic Acid+hydrocortisone is a combination of two drugs, namely Fusidic acid and Hydrocortisone, which reduces swelling, itching, and redness caused due to bacterial skin infections. Fusidic acid is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic that is active against Gram-positive bacteria and works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply, and increase in numbers. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that acts inside skin cells and inhibits the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching, and swelling. When the skin reacts to any allergens, such chemicals are released normally.

Directions for Use

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Atopic dermatitis (eczema): This is a skin condition in which the immune system becomes triggered and disordered, thereby causing inflammation, dry skin, itching, a skin rash that appears purple or grey, or red in colour. Eczema is caused due to change in the gene, which forms filaggrin (protein). This protein gets damaged due to the bacterial infection damaging the skin barrier, allowing bacteria to cause dry, itchy, and allergic skin.
