Pentazocine
About Pentazocine
Pentazocine belongs to a group of medicines called opiates/narcotic analgesics used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It is indicated in the management of pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic for which alternative treatment is inadequate. It is also used as a pre-anaesthetic or pre-operative medication and as a supplement to surgical anaesthesia.
Pentazocine contains ‘Pentazocine’, which works by changing the way the nervous system and brain respond to pain. Thereby, Pentazocine helps provide relief from pain.
In some cases, Pentazocine may cause common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness or lightheadedness and euphoria. You are advised to talk to your doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid driving or operating machinery as Pentazocine may impair the physical and mental ability. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side effects/interactions.
